Juazeiro do Norte is the largest pilgrimage centre in Ceará, and has some of the best hotels in the Cariri Region. The tourism (of a religious nature) is centred around Padre Cicero, a man considered to be a saint by the North-easterners. The Araripe Geopark, the first in the Americas, promotes eco-tourism as well as scientific tourism. Juazeiro is still a storehouse of regional culture, especially its craftwork. This centre of higher education welcomes 22,000 students from various states and is the pride of its residents.
